The world’s obsession for SUVs continues and even us lot have been bitten by the SUV bug. But it isn’t all that bad when you have manufacturers like BMW launching a ridiculously fast Super SUV. Recently it launched the X3 M and now it’s got the X5 M Competition to India.
By fast, we really do mean it. Under the hood is a 4.4-litre V8 that belts out a massive 617 bhp and 76.47 kgm of torque. That’s good to rocket you from 0-100 kph in 3.8 seconds, but is electronically limited to a top speed of 250 kph. Powering all the four wheels is an 8-speed M Steptronic auto gearbox. That specifically is an M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which also comes with Active M Differential. We’ll have to see for ourselves if the X5 M Competition can really drift?
For the enthusiasts, there’s an ‘M Mode’ button on the centre console which helps you toggle between Track, Road and Sport mode settings. Naturally, the X5 M Competition gets a specially tuned suspension, adaptive dampers and active roll stabilization. Pick your mode of poison carefully, and the M-specific chassis will do the trick for you.
Coming to its exteriors, it gets a large front bumper with air intakes, blacked-out grille, twin exhaust pipes, and rear spoiler. It sits on lovely 21s up front and 22s at the rear. Inside, it gets a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with BMW’s gesture control, wireless charging, leather seats, panoramic sunroof and of course comes with the M treatment to it with M-specific badges and touches.
For a ridiculously fast Super SUV, the BMW X5 M Competition has a hefty asking price of Rs 1.95 crore, ex-showroom.
