Italian design house Bertone has brought a vehicle 55 years after it was first revealed — the reimagined Autobianchi A112 Runabout concept. The Bertone Runabout will actually go into production, in a limited run, and not surprisingly, with a hefty price tag of around Rs 3.19 crore.
The concept car was designed by none other than the late Marcello Gandini, the design legend behind a whole lot of Italian beauties. With the new Runabout, Bertone has remained faithful to the original styling, while making slight adjustments for practical reasons. For example, the headlights on the concept car were positioned above the rear wheels, while the production car has pop-up headlights. The Runabout now also has doors and mirrors, unlike the initial concept.
You can choose from two variants; With the Barchetta, you have the concept car look, without a roof or windshield. Then there is the Targa, which has been given a roof and a windshield, too. The original Autobianchi A112 Runabout had a 1.1-litre four-cylinder engine, while the new Runabout is equipped with a V6 that pushes around 493 bhp. Other technical details of the car have not been revealed yet.
