Two bombs have been dropped today…erm, let me rephrase that actually. Mercedes-Benz has launched two very interesting cars today. One’s a crowd-favourite SUV, the other is a proper fire-breathing sedan that is also now more forgiving to the environment. The Mercedes-Benz GLE facelift is being offered in multiple trims, while the AMG C 43 comes in just one trim, but we’re talking about it someplace else.
The changes to the GLE facelift are subtle, but you’ll know they are there, regardless of whether they’re outside or inside. The grille is now a single-slat unit and features star-like elements similar to what we’ve seen on the C-Class. The bumpers on both ends, as well as the headlamps and tail-lamps have been restyled, while the alloy-wheels are completely brand new. Inside, the layout remains the same, but the steering wheel has been lifted off of the S-Class, featuring touch controls for the infotainment screen and digital cluster. Speaking of screens, the GLE facelift features a blended-screen setup, both screens measuring 12.3-inches and running on the latest version of the MBUX system.
In terms of equipment, the Mercedes-Benz GLE facelift comes packing with a 13-speaker Burmester surround-sound system, wireless smartphone connectivity, voice assistant, driver assistance functions, and even a ‘smart home’ function that lets you control smart devices in your house from your car. Other things include an optional air suspension, OTA updates, air purifier, and a 360-degree camera among many other things.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE facelift gives you three different powertrain options to choose from. The GLE 300 packs a 2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel unit, with 265 bhp and 56 kgm of torque, while the GLE 450 and the 450d are powered by 3-litre, six-cylinder units. The GLE 450 is the sole petrol option, producing 375 bhp and 50.9 kgm of torque, while the GLE 450d is the second diesel option with 361 bhp and 76.4 kgm of torque. All powertrains are paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
With prices ranging between Rs 96.4 lakh to Rs 1.15 crore (ex-showroom), the Mercedes-Benz GLE facelift goes up against the BMW X5, Volvo XC90, and the Audi Q7. Perhaps it’s time to round these up for a comparison?
