Mercedes has launched a new variant of the C-Class called the C250 d with an increase in power over the C220 cdi at a price of Rs 44.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). The C250 d has the same 2.1-litre diesel engine as the C220 cdi but with a bump in power to 201 bhp (up from 170 bhp) and a increase in torque to 50.9 kgm (an increase of 10.1 kgm). Significantly, it also gets the 9G-Tronic transmission instead of the seven speed unit of the C220 cdi. Other than the mechanical changes, the C250 d gets some add-ons over the C220 Avantgarde like 17 inch alloys, a 180 degree rear view camera, a built-in Garmin map, ambient mood lighting system and an intelligent lighting system that adjusts the headlights and the tail lamps according to weather and driving conditions. The extra power shows in the zero to 100 kph times, with the C250 d doing it in 6.6 seconds, according to claimed figures.
