The Windsor EV is making its grand India debut on September 11, 2024! Yes, that’s right, the Windsor will be elegantly wedged between the cute-as-a-button Comet EV and the feature-packed ZS EV. Windsor EV is already a superstar in markets like Indonesia, where it moonlights as the Wuling Cloud EV.
Now, don’t expect MG Motor India to pull a makeover stunt on this electric beauty — except for some necessary rebranding because, well, local flavour. And since MG has dubbed it a CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle, for the uninitiated), we’re betting on a slight bump in ground clearance to help it float over our infamous potholes with grace.
Under the hood — or more accurately, beneath the chassis—lies a 50.6kWh battery pack, snugly settled on a slick skateboard EV platform. This setup sends juice to a front-mounted motor, giving you up to 460 km of range on a single charge. That’s the same as driving from Mumbai to Goa with some juice left for a beachside stroll! The Windsor’s permanent magnet synchronous electric motor churns out a respectable 132 bhp and 20.39 kgm of torque — enough to make your daily commute feel like a breeze.
Charging? The Windsor’s got you covered. Zip from 30-100 per cent in under 30 minutes with a DC fast charger, or take the scenic route and go from 20-100 per cent in about 7 hours with an AC charger.
As you’d expect from an MG, the Windsor comes loaded with tech and comfort features. We’re talking automatic LED headlights with a snazzy connected light bar, 18-inch alloy wheels that scream style, and powered front seats.
Inside, you’ll find a whopping 15.6-inch infotainment system to keep you entertained and an 8.8-inch TFT instrument cluster. Add in Level-2 ADAS features, front and rear armrests with secret storage, a 360-degree parking camera, and an electric tailgate, and you’ve got a CUV that’s ready to roll.
But wait — there’s more! The whole cabin will be dressed in a suave black-over-beige combo, with seats so plush they’ve got a quilt pattern to prove it. MG’s Aero-Lounge seats, which boast a 135-degree recline angle, perfect for kicking back like you’re in a private jet. And with a seat base that’s both wide and long, even the tallest of passengers can stretch out without playing footsie with the front seats. Add to that rear AC vents, a central armrest, seat-back pockets, and bottle holders in the doors, and you’ve got yourself a cabin that screams luxury.
It’s launching on the 9/11, jokes apart — as that’s when the Windsor EV will be officially unveiled to the Indian market. We’re expecting MG to open bookings on the same day. The price? That’s still a mystery. The Windsor takes on the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 400 in the battle of the electric UVs.
