The Cayenne, like any other Porsche (except the 911) is also destined to go electric. In the recent past, Porsche also said it is working on a new flagship 7-seater SUV that will be completely electric and will arrive sometime in 2027. However, to get back to the matter at hand, the Porsche Cayenne EV is making its global debut in 2025, and like we said earlier, the twin-turbo V8 Cayenne isn’t going anywhere, even beyond 2030. Now if only Porsche applied the same logic to the 718 Cayman and Boxster…
The current-gen Cayenne was given an extensive upgrade last year, and Porsche says further technical work will be carried out, particularly on improving the efficiency of the V8 powertrain. With the all-new electric version, the Cayenne will be stepping into the fourth-generation. While obviously not much is known about the car itself, we do know it will be underpinned by the PPE platform (Premium Platform Electric) with an 800-volt architecture. This platform has recently also underpinned the Audi Q6 e-tron and the Porsche Macan EV, and it is flexible enough to accommodate a variety of body styles, including the A6 e-tron sedan that is also to be revealed globally later this year.
Porsche says that real-world testing of the Cayenne EV has begun, and ‘prototypes will have completed several million test kilometres all over the world under extreme climatic and topographical conditions.’
