Remember the rugged-looking Auto Expo exhibit on Renault’s stand in 2016 that looked like a go-anywhere version of the Kwid? It might have taken the French carmaker a year to make but it’s finally here. Available only with the 1-litre SCe engine, the Kwid Climber can be yours at a little premium over the regular car.
Bookings have begun at all dealerships; it can also be done using the Kwid App (available on both Android and iOS). While the 0.8-litre engine isn’t available, the Kwid Climber can be had with either the manual gearbox or the Easy-R five-speed AMT. Available only on the top-spec version, the Climber is priced at Rs 4.30 lakh for the MT and Rs 4.60 lakh for the AMT-equipped variant; both ex-showroom prices.
Changes on the outside, as listed by Renault include bumper over-riders, front and rear terrain protectors, roof bars, side repeaters finished in orange, door protection cladding, and ‘muscular’ style wheels. On the inside, there’s a new steering wheel with orange perforations, orange contour on the centre console, orange trims and upholstery.
There are quite a few of ways to remind you that it’s a new version, including multiple ‘climber’ sticker/inscriptions, and that’s no bad thing, considering the Kwid wasn’t ever shy about its styling. Dimensions and mechanicals remain unchanged, with the 1-litre, 3-cylinder engine making 67 bhp. It continues to offer a class-leading 300 litres of boot space. And an unmissable styling, too. Talking of which, you can have the Climber in any of the three colour choices: Electric Blue, Outback Bronze, and Planet Grey.
