Renault India has finally launched the Triber 100 PS at Rs 7.84 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It marks the entry of Renault’s new Renault Group Entry Platform (RGEP), and comes with the same 98 bhp, 180 Nm, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine you see in the Kiger and Duster. Apart from the new engine, the Triber 100 PS (or Triber Turbo for easier understanding) remains the same as the standard Triber.
The Triber Turbo is offered in three trims — Evolution, Techno, and Emotion — with the base-spec Authentic missing out on the more powerful engine option. Additionally, the turbo engine is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission, with no information about when the CVT will be introduced.
In terms of features, the Triber Turbo is quite similar to the standard Triber as it comes with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, auto wipers, wireless charger, cruise control and more. Safety features include six airbags, reverse camera, parking sensors, TPMS and the likes.
Renault says the new Triber Turbo is based on the RGEP platform which allows for better thermal efficiency for the powertrain, through a Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) cooling fan. Renault has also revised the suspension geometry to handle the slightly heavier engine much better, and has improved the structural rigidity for better crash protection.
The Triber enjoys a special place in the Indian automotive landscape as it is (and has been for a while) the only seven-seater MPV that measures under four metres. This means the Triber doesn’t have direct rivals but can be compared with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens, albeit at a much higher price.
