Škoda has whipped the covers off its first fully electric compact SUV, the India-bound Skoda Elroq. With a starting price of around €33,000 (roughly ₹30.63 lakh, minus subsidies), the Elroq plants itself firmly in the ever-growing compact SUV segment, making its global debut as deliveries start in early 2025 and a mid-year touchdown scheduled for India.
Sporting Škoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design language, the Elroq takes a sharp approach to aesthetics and functionality. The old-school radiator grille has been swapped out for a sleek ‘Tech Deck Face,’ giving the front end a futuristic vibe, while the headlights offer both standard LED and Matrix LED options.
Not to mention, the debut model rocks a bold Timiano Green, one of nine striking finishes to choose from. And if you’re eyeing the First Edition, keep an eye out for the exclusive connecting light band between the headlights, because apparently, it’s all about standing out.
Under the hood — or rather, the floor — Škoda has packed in Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, which brings a trio of battery options to the table: 55 kWh, 63 kWh, and 82 kWh. The entry-level Elroq 50 kicks things off with a 168 bhp motor and promises over 370 km on a full charge.
At the top end, the Elroq 85 cranks out 282 bhp, delivering a claimed range exceeding 560 km. Need some extra grip? The Elroq 85x adds all-wheel drive to the mix. And if you’re in a hurry, DC fast-charging takes you from 10 to 80 per cent in just 24 minutes.
As an interesting fact, which we aren’t sure what you will do is, that the Elroq boasts a drag coefficient of just 0.26, thanks to active cooling tech and air-curtain optimisation.
Step inside and Škoda’s commitment to space and sustainability is loud and clear. A 13-inch central touchscreen keeps the tech in check, while physical buttons below add a retro nod to tactile control.
The Digital Cockpit delivers all the critical info with a futuristic twist, and if you’re one for cutting-edge tech, there’s an optional Augmented Reality heads-up display that beams driving data onto the windshield.
Oh, and did we mention the boot? With a capacity of up to 1580 litres, it’s a good one for those cumbersome airport hauls.
Sized at 4488 mm in length, 1884 mm in width, and 1625 mm in height, the Elroq fits snugly within the compact SUV dimensions, yet still manages to offer a generous wheelbase of 2765 mm. At just under two tonnes, it’s got a reassuring heft to match its electric powertrain.
In short, the Elroq is shaping up to be a sharp, slick, and space-savvy contender in the EV game, bringing Škoda’s electric ambitions to Indian roads by 2025. Keep your eyes peeled.
