The Tata Punch.ev and the Nexon.ev have replicated the safety prowess of their combustion-engined siblings, with both cars achieving a five-star safety rating, thus becoming the first two EVs to have been tested at the BNCAP.
With a score of 31.46 out of 32.00 for adult occupant protection, and 45.00 out of 49.00 for child occupant protection, the Tata Punch.ev has become the highest-rated car at the Bharat NCAP. The model sent for the test was equipped with front airbags, side head curtain airbags, and side chest airbags, along with a belt pre-tensioner, belt load limiter, seat belt reminder, ISOFIX child mounts, and an airbag cut-off switch. In terms of adult occupant safety, the Punch.ev scored 31.46 points of 32.00; 15.71 out of 16.00 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, and 15.74 out of 16.00 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test.
The Tata Punch.ev is available with six airbags as standard, along with ESP, ISOFIX mounts, hill-hold assist, tyre pressure monitor, while a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, SOS, disc brakes on both ends, electronic parking brake, and hill descent control are available subject to different variants. There are two battery pack options to choose from; a 25 kWh unit with 315 km of claimed range, and a 35 kWh unit with 421 km of claimed range. You can charge it either via a 3.3 kW AC charger, or a 7.2 kW DC fast charger.
Meanwhile, the Nexon.ev hasn’t stayed far behind either, having also secured a five-star rating. However, the Nexon.ev received scores of 29.86 out of 32.00 in terms of adult occupant safety, and 44.89 out of 45.00 in terms of child occupant safety. The Nexon.ev also comes with a similar list of standard features compared to the Punch.ev, with a reverse parking camera as an additional standard feature.
