POV: You are looking to evade rising fuel costs, and are considering buying a Tata car, since it offers the most options in terms of powertrains. However, your bank balance (or perspective, we don’t blame you) doesn’t exactly allow you to go for an EV just yet, hence you look towards CNG, and then you realize CNG cars cannot be bought without a stick shift. Boy, do we have good news for you!
Tata Motors has opened bookings for the Tiago iCNG and the Tigor iCNG automatic variants, for an amount of Rs 21,000! The Tiago and Tigor are set to be the first CNG in the country to be offered with an automatic transmission, an AMT unit to be precise. The Tiago iCNG automatic will be offered in three variants; XTA CNG, XZA+ CNG, and XZA NRG. Meanwhile the Tigor iCNG automatic will be available in two variants; XZA CNG and XZA+ CNG.
The Tata Tiago iCNG and Tigor iCNG automatic retain the 1.2-litre petrol engine with 72 bhp and 9.69 kgm of torque on offer. Both cars now also feature twin CNG cylinders underneath the boot; a solution first seen on the Altroz iCNG. Being automatic transmission cars, the Tiago iCNG and Tigor iCNG also feature a creep function for easy maneuverability in tight traffic conditions and during parking. Both cars can also be started in CNG mode directly, and Tata says there’s also an advanced ECU to ensure jerk-free shifts when switching from CNG to petrol, and vice versa.
If you’re concerned about safety, Tata has added a leak detection feature, along with a thermal protection system that cuts off CNG supply to the engine in case of a thermal failure, thus releasing gas from the cylinder directly into the atmosphere through a special nozzle.
Tata Motors has also added new paint schemes to the CNG versions of the Tiago and Tigor. The Tiago iCNG now gets a new Tornado Blue paint scheme, while the Tiago NRG receives a Grassland Beige, and a Meteor Bronze shade in the Tigor iCNG. Stay tuned for the launch of the Tata Tiago and Tigor iCNG automatic variants. What are your expectations on the pricing of these cars? Let us know!
