Tata Motors has now come up with its arsenal of CNG variants, the Tiago iCNG and the Tigor iCNG. The former starts from Rs 6.09 lakh, while the latter’s price starts from Rs 7.69 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi). Now, powering them both is a 72-bhp 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron engine, which produces 9.68 kgm of torque. In comparison to its petrol variants, that’s 12 bhp and 1.84 kgm down on performance. Plus, the car now has to carry the additional weight of the CNG kit. Well, we’ll soon see whether that’s going to affect your daily commutes.
And that isn’t the only bit where you’ll be compromising, you’ll also have to compromise a lot on boot space and ground clearance. For the Tiago CNG, its boot size has dropped from 242 litres to 80 litres, whereas the Tigor’s gone down from 419 litres to 205 litres. As for the ground clearance, it’s still adequate at 168 mm for the Tiago and 165 mm for the Tigor. Of course, all that shouldn’t be a deal-breaker if all you want to do is just use it to drive around the city.
Apart from that, both of them still pack a good list of features like projector headlamps with LED DRLs, 14-inch wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, auto climate control, among other things. Both the Tiago and Tigor’s XZ+ trim is updated; the Tiago XZ+ gets a new Midnight Plum colour with a dual-tone black and beige interior, while the Tigor XZ+ gets a Magnetic Red colour option. Do stay tuned for our detailed review of them.
