The Tata Tigor compact sedan range has been widened with the inclusion of two AMT-equipped variants. The XZA and XTA, as they’re called, are available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 5-speed automated manual transmission.
Said gearbox keeps simplicity on priority, offers the ability to manually shift gears (clutch-free, of course), but also comes with a ‘Sports’ mode. The segment-first feature makes the car more eager and thus fun to drive, claims the company. Another vital inclusion is of the ‘Creep’ feature, which not unlike a creep, creeps forward as soon as you let go of the brakes. The name aside, it’s a boon as it makes both parking and driving on inclines easier. The latter because it prevents the car from rolling backwards. The 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine makes 83.8 bhp, and is also available in the Tiago as well the MT-equipped Tigor.
The Tigor XTA is priced at Rs 5.75 lakh, ex-showroom, while if you’re looking at buying it in the top-spec XMA flavour, it will cost you Rs 6.22 lakh. Excluding road tax, registration costs, etc, that is. In comparison, the least expensive Maruti Dzire you can buy — with a petrol engine and AMT gearbox — costs Rs 6.73 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s also the only other car in the segment with an AMT.
