Tesla’s highly anticipated India debut is now just a day away, with the Model Y
electric SUV scheduled for launch on July 15, 2025. Recent sightings of camouflaged test models on Indian roads confirm the company’s serious commitment to entering this emerging EV market. The upcoming India-spec Model Y is expected to be the facelifted version, featuring several premium touches that should appeal to luxury buyers.
Inside the cabin, customers will find sophisticated dual-tone black and white interiors with premium white upholstery that creates a bright, modern aesthetic. The minimalist dashboard centers around Tesla’s signature 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system that controls most vehicle functions, while a panoramic glass roof floods the cabin with natural light. Advanced features like Autopilot driver assistance and over-the-air software updates will likely be standard, keeping the Model Y at the technological forefront. Now the big question is will the features like Autopilot work with our Indian road conditions and traffic patterns

Pricing remains a key consideration for Indian buyers. Since Tesla will initially import the Model Y as completely built units (CBUs), the expected price range of ₹65-75 lakh (ex-showroom) positions it as a premium offering. This pricing aligns with global figures – the Long Range AWD variant sells for about $64,990 (Approx ₹55 lakh) in the U.S., while the RWD version commands $76,720 (₹65.8 lakh) in Singapore.
Tesla’s market entry strategy focuses on creating an immersive brand experience. The company is putting finishing touches on its first Indian showroom – a 24,566 sq ft “Experience Centre” in Mumbai’s upscale Bandra Kurla Complex. Additional showrooms are planned for Delhi, with Tesla already listing job openings for sales and service staff in both cities.
The Model Y will compete in India’s growing luxury EV segment against established players like the BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, and Audi Q8 e-tron. While its CBU status keeps prices elevated initially, Tesla’s strong brand appeal and EV expertise could attract early adopters. Looking ahead, strong sales may prompt Tesla to consider local assembly (CKD) to make its vehicles more accessible to Indian consumers.
With the Model Y launch, Tesla officially joins India’s electric vehicle revolution, bringing its unique blend of technology and performance to discerning Indian buyers. The July 15 debut marks just the beginning of Tesla’s ambitious plans for this important market.
