Seven months after its global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder is now available in India. At a price of course – Rs 3.89 crores (ex-showroom, Delhi), and that is before one starts getting adventurous with the 30,000 customization options on offer.
There are no changes to the underlying mechanical bits compared the coupe, with the naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 still producing 602 bhp and 57 kgm; only now one can drop that cloth top and hear it better. The ‘4’ in the model designation reminds one that all the wheels are powered and the transmission is the same seven-speed dual clutch automatic. The only major change is in the engine management system, which can deactivate one entire bank of cylinders to conserve fuel, turning the V-10 into an inline-5!
Generally, open top versions of coupes lose out in chassis rigidity compared to their fixed roof counterparts, but Lamborghini has claimed that the Spyder has been designed with 40% more torsional rigidity than the older Gallardo coupe and can generate 50% more downforce. This increase in rigidity has not come at the expense of added weight, with both the coupe and Spyder tipping the scales at 1550 kg. The brochure says that the Spyder can hit 100 kph from standstill in 3.4 seconds, but that might be on the conservative side since coupes have regularly dipped below the 3.0 seconds in the real world testing. The cloth top (available in three different colors) can be raised and lowered in 17 seconds at speeds up to 50 kph. However, if you so fancy, the rear glass window can be lowered independently from the cloth-top. Hear the V10 scream without getting your hair ruffled! Deliveries of the Spyder will start soon, and if the success of the coupe has anything to go by, all the Spyders allotted for India should be snapped up quickly.
