Totoya’s officially unveiled the Hilux in India, and it will be available in two trims — Low and High. Its prices will be out in March before deliveries commence, but you can book one now by paying Rs 1 lakh as the booking amount.
Powering it is a 201-bhp 2.8-litre diesel engine that can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed auto ‘box. The torque figure on the manual gearbox is 42.82 kgm, while it produces an enormous 50.99 kgm of torque on the automatic. Oh yes, and all its variants are equipped with 4X4 drive capabilities. Well, this also includes an automatic limited-slip differential, electronic differential lock, electronic drive switch, downhill assist control among other things.
The Hilux is targeted as a Luxury Utility Vehicle by Toyota and it packs on enough features like all LED headlights, DRLs, 18-inch alloys, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, to name a few. On the safety front, it gets seven airbags, ISOFIX child seat restraint system, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill assist and downhill assist electronic controls. Besides this, it was also rewarded a 5-star crash safety rating by ASEAN NCAP.
Of course, we have a good hunch that many would go berserk customising the Hilux to their liking with aftermarket accessories and kits, but Toyota also will be offering its own list of accessories. You’ll have to wait a little longer for the exhaustive list, however. Anyway, now that the robust Hilux is here, would you still pick the Fortuner over it?
