Are you one of those kids who got caught sketching cars, motorcycles or anything related to them on the back of your notebook, when you really should’ve been focusing on that math equation? Don’t worry, we’ve been there too. Growing up, if you’ve been wanting to make your own contribution to cars, scooters, motorcycles or creating an impact on them with your knowledge, this is going to be good news! The Xavier School of Management, better known as XLRI, is setting up India’s first institution dedicated to automotive design in Delhi-NCR.
This dedicated school of automotive design will be called ‘INDEA’; short for Indian School for Design of Automobiles. INDEA will offer various programmes, from a Master’s in Automobile Design & Management to refreshers for practising designers and inductions for CXOs. Seminars, master-classes and workshops will also be planned as part of the annual calendar. A programme in Automobile Restoration has also been proposed.
INDEA is being set up by XLRI alumnus in collaboration with Avik Chattopadhyay; an experienced automotive industry professional with stints across OEMs such as Maruti Suzuki, Volkswagen India, PSA Peugeot Citroen, ExxonMobil and Apollo Tyres. He is also a contributor to various automotive media houses, and an alumnus of XLRI Jamshedpur himself. INDEA will also be guided by a mentor board comprising of professionals such as Gautam Sen, a celebrated automotive journalist and author, XLRI alumnus of 1984, along with Justice Indira Banerjee, ex-Judge, Supreme Court of India and an expert on corporate and constitutional law, and lastly I.V Rao, ex-Director, Engineering at Maruti Suzuki India Limited and a distinguished fellow at TERI.
