What is it?

The Pura X is Huawei’s new flip-style phone that opens horizontally, and not vertically like other clamshell phones.

Why is it cool?

While the usual crop of flip phones tend to have tall and narrow-ish
screens, the sideways-opening Pura X allows for a 6.3-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 1320 X 2120 pixel resolution. Even the real estate on the external screen isn’t bad; the 3.5-inch display has a triple outward-facing camera setup at the top consisting of a 50-MP primary sensor with optical image stabilisation, a 40-MP ultra-wide macro camera and an 8-MP telephoto camera. Interestingly, Huawei has ditched Android and bundled the phone with its own HarmonyOS and built-in AI enhanced by China’s DeepSeek.

Is it expensive?

Currently, the phone is available only in China at an equivalent of ₹ 89,000 for the 12 GB RAM + 256 GB ROM variant and around ₹ 95,000 for the 12 GB + 512 GB version.
