Citroën has spiced up its India portfolio with the introduction of the C3 Sport Edition, a more dynamic version of its popular hatchback, priced at an attractive Rs 6.44 lakh (ex-showroom). This new variant retains the standard C3’s core strengths while adding sporty design elements that enhance its street presence, making it an appealing choice for young, style-conscious buyers.
The C3 Sport Edition builds on the model’s distinctive French design with several aesthetic upgrades. The most noticeable change is the gloss black roof, which creates a striking two-tone effect when paired with the exclusive Lunar Grey exterior paint. Other enhancements include blacked-out ORVMs and door handles, diamond-cut alloy wheels, and ‘Sport Edition’ badging on the front fenders. While the changes are subtle, they give the hatchback a more aggressive look without compromising its quirky charm.
Inside, the Sport Edition retains the C3’s spacious and practical cabin but adds a few premium touches. These include a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, Sport Edition-branded floor mats, and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. However, it still lacks some features found in rivals, such as automatic climate control and rear AC vents, keeping the focus on affordability.
Under the hood, the C3 Sport Edition offers the same engine options as the standard model: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine 83 bhp and 11.72 kgm with a 5-speed manual transmission and a more powerful 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine 108 bhp 19.37 kgm paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The turbo variant delivers peppy performance, making it ideal for city driving, while both engines promise excellent fuel efficiency up to 19.8 kpl as per company claims.
Priced at Rs 6.44 lakh, the C3 Sport Edition competes with the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, Nissan Magnite and Maruti Ignis. While it may not match some rivals in terms of features, Citroën is banking on its unique design and sporty appeal to carve a niche in the competitive compact car segment.
The C3 Sport Edition is a compelling option for buyers seeking a stylish and affordable hatchback with a touch of sportiness. While it doesn’t revolutionize the segment, its limited-edition exclusivity and attractive pricing could help Citroën attract more attention in India’s crowded market.
