It is going to be a festival of speed this weekend at the Buddh International Circuit. Because, it is the finale of the 19th JK Tyre – FMSCI National Championship, and the racing is going to include everything from superbikes to open-wheel racers. It not going to be all about racing though, with India’s best racing talents along with TV stars expected to play host and a world renowned stunt performer is going to keep the crowds engaged. Also, a number tuning shops is going to setup shops at the circuit allowing attendants to get their cars modified by them.
First up in the roster of racing events is the JK Superbike 600cc race, where 18 riders will be competing against each other on Triumph Daytona 675 Rs. Next up would be the 1000cc category, which would not be restricted one make, with Honda CBR Fireblades, BMW S1000RRs, Yamaha R1s , Ducati Panigales and Kawasaki ZX-10Rs expected to be there on the starting grid.
Defending champion Simranjeet Singh, German National Championship racer Dileep Roger, nine-time national road racing champion and national treasure Rajni Krishnan and social media favorite Dr Neharika Yadav is going to be among 32 riders who are going to compete in the litre class. Does not get any better than this, honestly.
Open wheel racing over the weekend is going to include BMW-powered Formula 2 cars for the Euro JK Championship and the LGB Formula 4 cars, with as many as four races each for the BMW cars. There is a big chance for an upset over the weekend because there are three drivers in title contention for Euro JK, and with the podium finishers picking up 10 points, 8 points and 6 points respectively, things could get close. Although Vishnu Prasad is leading with a 15-point lead in the LGB class, things might go down to the wire if somebody has a bad weekend.
Lastly in the JK Touring Cars segment (those souped up Esteems sound really, really good) Red Rooster of Bangalore has dominated the year by winning all the races. But there is a fierce battle going on for second and third on the championship, between two Prime Racing drivers.
If exciting, close racing is not your cup of tea, world record stunt driver, Terry Grant will be there, who has a habit of driving cars on just two wheels. With him hanging outside the car. Upside down. Also, to keep the crowd busy, there will be something called the Racing Bazaar, where reputed car tuners will set up and shop and will be peddling their wares. Expect the parking lot to be filled with Polo GT TSIs.
