BMW India has launched the next-generation BMW 5 Series in India. Codenamed G30, it replaces the F10 5 Series which essentially marked the beginning of the replacement of Bangle-designed BMWs in the Indian market. Like in the past, the company has successfully managed to make newer products lighter and loaded with tech, and the new 5er isn’t any different.
In comparison to the outgoing car, it’s marginally longer, more aerodynamic, lighter by about 70 kilos, and complete with segment-first features like Remote Park Control and gesture control for the infotainment system.
There are four variants on sale, namely 530i Sport Line, 520d Sport Line, 520d Luxury Line, and the top-spec 530d M Sport. All are RWD, sending power via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Unlike in the past, the 530i is powered by a 2-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine and not a straight-six unit, but with a 248.5 bhp output, there’s not much you would complain about. The base diesel is powered by a 187 bhp 2-litre, four-cylinder diesel, but thankfully the 530d continues with an inline-six diesel which makes 252.5 bhp and 63.26 kgm.
Prices start at Rs 49.9 lakhs for the 520d Sport line, ex-showroom, GST-included. The Luxury Line trim on the same spec costs Rs 53.6 lakh. The petrol-powered 530i Sport Line retails for Rs 49.9 lakh, while the top-spec, M Sport kit-equipped 530d is priced at Rs 61.3 lakh.
