Say hello to Mercedes-Benz’s first long-range EV, the EQS 580. It’s also the first EV in India to offer an ARAI-certified range of 857 km. To own one, you’ll have to shell out Rs 1.55 crore (ex-showroom). It manages to undercut the AMG EQS 53 S and even the locally-assembled S-Class.
We recently drove the AMG EQS 53 S, and in comparison to that, the EQS 580’s design is on the subtle side. The EQS 580 has a drag coefficient of 0.20 — it’s the most aerodynamic production car in the world. Powering this is a 107.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that sends power to two electric motors and produces a total output of 516 bhp and 87.28 kgm. The AMG EQS 53 S delivers 762 bhp and 104 kgm of torque using the same dual electric motors. However, the EQS 580 can go from 0-100 kph in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 210 kph. Furthermore, rear-wheel steering is offered only to the first 500 customers. Coming to the charging, if you get hold of a 200-kW DC fast charger, then it can add 300 km of range in 15 minutes.
Inside, the Hyperscreen takes away all the attention as it stretches across the length of the dashboard. The driver and front passenger get 12.3-inch screens, while the centre infotainment system gets a 17.7-inch screen. By the way, you can even play pre-installed games on the Hyperscreen. Plus, there are 12 actuators to provide haptic input for the users.
Moreover, the EQS 580 features include air filtration, a Burmester 3D sound system, 3D maps, a heads-up display, massaging functionality for the front seats, and an MBUX tablet for the passengers in the back seats. It gets a five-star crash test rating by Euro NCAP and comes with nine airbags, lane change, lane keep assistance, and an emergency stop system. Do stay tuned for our detailed review!
