We’re suckers for chrome and Royal Enfield ensures we never run out of it. This time, it’s been supplied in the form of the new Classic 650. As it turns out, I happened to be in Goa (I happen to be there a lot) and RE was kind enough to deliver the Classic 650 right here. You’ll read about what transpired thereafter soon enough but, for now, let’s get familiar with it.

I’ve been besotted with the idea of a Classic 650 since even before it existed and, to say the least, I was thrilled to see it being unloaded off a truck, its bubble wrap being cautiously peeled off by the good folks at the Royal Enfield Garage Cafe. Oh, it’s a substantial motorcycle, alright! My excitement soon waned, though, upon finding its bulbous tank slightly scuffed at the top – somebody clearly has been careless with a tank bag and I hope I never find out who it is. It also came bearing mirrors off the Classic 350 but that, fortunately, was the last of the inconveniences.

There are few places that complement chrome as well as Goa so, right after it was given a quick wash and wipe, I set out on an aimless jaunt, soaking in its new sensations, retiring only in time for dinner. The ride was rewarding and memorable but was it the Classic or just the setting? I’m sorry, you’ll have to wait to hear the full story.

Sadly, I’ve had to leave the Classic behind in Goa (the best of my logistical strategies couldn’t save this one) although there’s a bright side to it, too; I’ve probably bought myself some time to figure out how I’m going to carve a Classic 650-sized cavity in my hilariously cramped parking space. Or maybe I should just move to Goa instead?
