Royal Enfield has released a bunch of pictures from its ‘team outing’ in the mountains featuring the upcoming Himalayan 750 and the Himalayan Electric test bed. While the latter is supposedly only a platform for the company’s EV development, the former seems pretty much production-ready.
There have been speculations about Royal Enfield upgrading its 650 platform by bumping up the engine capacity. An Interceptor and a faired Continental GT have already been spotted testing, and the ADV too is likely to sport the same engine. For reference, the 650cc parallel-twin makes up to 47 bhp and 5.5 kgm, so expect the new engine to pack more performance than this.
The Himalayan 750 looks like a proper retro-styled ADV. In fact, it looks a lot like the Husqvarana Norden 901 with its circular headlight, half fairing and the high-mounted exhaust. At the rear, the bike has the same tail-light-integrated indicator as the Himalayan 450. The USD forks and the dual-disc setup at the front not only add to the visual appeal but hopefully enhance the ride experience as well.
Royal Enfield seems to have used tube-type wire-spoke rims on what looks like a 19-/17-inch setup. So, the company may not be intending the Himalayan 750 to be an all-out off-roader but something that could handle some rough terrain. Then again, considering RE’s tradition of making heavy motorcycles, you wouldn’t want to be in a sticky situation with a behemoth like this.
While it is clear that the Himalayan 750 is ready for production, Royal Enfield hasn’t announced any dates yet. But going by the company’s one-bike-per-quarter formula, we might see it on the roads soon.
