Toyota has officially unveiled the all-new Land Cruiser FJ, marking an exciting new chapter in the brand’s legendary off-road lineage. This upcoming SUV brings the rugged DNA of the Land Cruiser family into a more compact and accessible form, designed for enthusiasts who want serious off-road ability without the size and bulk of its bigger siblings. The Land Cruiser FJ will make its public debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, with its market launch in Japan scheduled for mid-2026.
Built on a refined version of Toyota’s IMV platform, the Land Cruiser FJ promises to deliver the same robustness and off-road prowess that have made the Land Cruiser name iconic for over seven decades. Toyota has tuned the FJ to offer exceptional wheel articulation, comparable to the hardcore 70 Series, ensuring it can tackle uneven terrain and rocky paths with ease. At the same time, its shorter wheelbase—270mm less than the Land Cruiser 250—helps the SUV achieve an impressive 5.5-metre turning radius, making it far more manoeuvrable in tight spaces, whether in the wilderness or urban environments.
Under the hood, the new FJ will be powered by a 2.7-litre petrol engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and a full-time 4WD system. The powertrain produces 160 bhp and 25.08 kgm of torque, offering a solid balance between performance and reliability. True to Toyota’s tradition of durability, the SUV features reinforced structural braces and a high-rigidity body, developed through extensive off-road testing across various terrains to ensure dependability and endurance.
Dimensionally, the prototype measures 4,575mm in length, 1,855mm in width, and 1,960mm in height, with a five-seat configuration that emphasises practicality and comfort. Despite its compact proportions, the FJ retains the unmistakable Land Cruiser stance—with a bold, boxy silhouette, high ground clearance, and a no-nonsense design that blends function with heritage.
With the new Land Cruiser FJ, Toyota is extending its off-road portfolio to a new audience—drivers who value capability and toughness but prefer a more compact package. As the Land Cruiser series celebrates over 70 years and 12 million units sold worldwide, the FJ stands as a modern reinterpretation of the brand’s enduring spirit of adventure and dependability.
Stay tuned for more details as the Land Cruiser FJ heads toward its 2026 launch in Japan.
