The Mini Cooper S Convertible is now on sale at Rs 58.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India), and with that, it becomes India’s most affordable convertible car. It also marks Mini’s third launch in just three months, following the JCW All4 and the Countryman SE All4, making it clear that the brand is on a roll.
At first glance, the Cooper S Convertible looks familiar, but look closer and the details start to stand out. The traditional Union Jack tail-lamps, a drop-down tailgate that can double up as a seat (rated to hold 80kg), and the fabric roof give it a distinct personality over the hardtop. You still get the signature circular LED headlamps with DRLs, red ‘S’ badging, the octagonal grille outline, chunky cladding, and 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.
Inside, the only real change is a new black-and-beige knitted dashboard theme, but that’s hardly a complaint. The cabin still feels premium and playful, anchored by the 9.4-inch circular OLED touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Add to that powered front seats with a driver-side massage function, a head-up display, Harman Kardon sound system, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and a rear-view camera, and the Mini continues to punch above its size.
The electrically operated soft-top opens in 18 seconds and closes in 15 seconds, and you can do this at speeds of up to 30kph. Mini has also brought back its clever ‘sunroof mode’, which lets you partially slide the roof back. Boot space stands at 215 litres, dropping to 160 litres when the roof is folded away, which is about what you’d expect from a lifestyle-focused convertible.
Powering the Cooper S Convertible is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 204hp and 30.59 kgm, paired exclusively with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Power goes to the front wheels, with no manual option on offer. The sprint from 0–100kph takes 6.9 seconds, and top speed is rated at 240 kph. Mini claims a fuel efficiency of 16.82kpl.
Perhaps the most interesting bit is what this car represents. Mini has hinted that this could be its last ICE-powered convertible before the brand transitions fully to electric. That makes the Cooper S Convertible not just a fun weekend toy, but also a bit of a future classic.
If you’ve ever wanted a proper convertible with personality, performance, and that unmistakable Mini charm, this might just be your moment—roof down, soundtrack up, and nostalgia fully engaged.
