At first glance, the new Bovensiepen 05 GT doesn’t look like the sort of car that would bully supercars on the autobahn. In fact, parked next to a BMW M5 Touring, it might even come across as the more restrained and sophisticated sibling. Don’t let the subtle styling fool you. Underneath, this thing packs enough firepower to make even BMW’s mighty super wagon look over its shoulder.
To understand the 05 GT, you first need to understand the name behind it. For decades, Alpina occupied a special place in the automotive world. It took BMWs and transformed them into something more mature, more luxurious, and usually astonishingly fast; a manufacturer rather than a tuner, and a meaningful distinction. Following BMW’s acquisition of Alpina, the Bovensiepen family has launched a new chapter under its own name, and the 05 GT is one of the first products to emerge from that fresh start.
Based on the BMW 5 Series Touring, the 05 GT follows a philosophy that enthusiasts will appreciate. The overall silhouette remains largely unchanged, preserving the clean and elegant proportions of the standard estate. Look closer, though, and you’ll spot the details.
Up front sits a bespoke stainless-steel grille flanked by larger air intakes and a redesigned bumper. Along the sides, subtle design lines and new side skirts give the car a lower and wider appearance. At the rear, there’s a discreet roof spoiler, a cleaner bumper design, and a gorgeous Akrapovič titanium exhaust system finished with four oval tailpipes. The exhaust not only looks purposeful but also saves around 7.8 kg, compared to the standard setup. Completing the package are beautifully machined 21-inch forged wheels that somehow manage to look both elegant and intimidating.
The real magic, however, lies beneath the skin.
Bovensiepen’s engineers have developed the chassis extensively, fitting bespoke Eibach springs, modified suspension components, and specially developed Pirelli tyres carrying unique BOV markings. The goal wasn’t to create a track-day special. The goal was sharper responses and better handling while preserving the long-distance comfort that a grand tourer should offer.
Then comes the engine.
Thanks to an optimised intake system, revised engine software, and that free-flowing Akrapovič exhaust, the twin-turbocharged powertrain now produces a staggering 811 bhp and 112 kgm of torque. That’s enough muscle to launch this two-and-a-half-tonne luxury express from 0-100 kph in under 3.6 seconds, before continuing all the way to a claimed top speed of 305 kph. Those numbers are wild when you stop to think about them. This is a family estate car with enough performance to embarrass many dedicated sports cars, all while carrying luggage, passengers, and perhaps even a dog in the boot.
Step inside and the transformation becomes more about craftsmanship than outright performance. The dashboard layout remains familiar to anyone who has spent time in the latest 5 Series, but nearly every surface can be personalised. Buyers can choose from an almost endless range of leather colours, stitching combinations, and trim finishes. The seats are more supportive, the steering wheel is handcrafted, and even the smallest details can be tailored to the owner’s taste.
In true coachbuilt fashion, every 05 GT can become a one-off creation. Want a specific shade of leather? Done. Special embroidery? No problem. A completely bespoke interior theme? Bovensiepen seems more than happy to make it happen.
Perhaps that’s what makes the 05 GT so appealing. In a world where performance cars are becoming increasingly similar, this feels like something genuinely special. It is a beautifully engineered grand tourer — handcrafted, understated, and with performance figures that bear no relation to how it looks parked at a motorway services.
The M5 Touring might still be the poster car, but if you’re after something rarer, more exclusive, and arguably more interesting, the Bovensiepen 05 GT could be the ultimate autobahn weapon you’ve probably never heard of.
