In a market like ours, Skoda’s sightly sporting intent is hardly a surprise. Be it the vRS, the Yeti, or even a V6-engined Superb that had its power sent to all four wheels, there’s been something for the keen enthusiast always. Which puts the latest Skoda Superb Sportline in the right company. Launched at Rs 28.99 lakh for the petrol variant and Rs 31.49 for the diesel, it bumps up both the features list and the looks.
On top of what you’d get on the regular version, the Skoda Superb Sportline offers 17-inch alloys, satin black Alcantara sports seats, paddle-shifters-equipped steering wheel, among other things. Exterior paint choices include Steel Grey, Moon White, and the ridiculously good-looking Velvet Red. Like on the regular Superb, there are two engines to choose from: a 174.5 bhp 2-litre diesel and a 177.5 bhp 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol. Both come paired to the company’s popular DSG dual-clutch transmission. Also included is the rather impressive list of safety kit, which has ABS, ESC, EBD, Mechanical Brake Assist, Multi Collision Braking, Hill Brake Assist, Hill Hold Assist, Anti Slip Regulation, Electronic Differential Lock, etc.
On the special edition quite a few bits are covered in glossy black. Like the OVRMs, radiator grille, window frames, door inserts, and the rear spoiler. The rear diffuser stands out from the bunch with chrome highlights, while there’s also the Sportline badging on the front fenders. On the inside, there’s carbon decor, ambient LED lighting, chrome door strips and pedals, and electrically adjustable front seats.
The 8-inch touchscreen system supports popular connectivity options (like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink under Skoda’s SmartLink umbrella) in addition to Bluetooth and the ability to read USB and SD cards. It’s also compatible with Skoda’s smartphone app that lets occupants control the functions without having to reach for the centre console.
