We’ve spoken about the Tata Punch.ev briefly, prices for which begin from Rs 10.99 lakh, ranging all the way up to Rs 14.49 lakh. The Punch.ev effectively sits between the Tiago.ev (Rs 8.69 lakh), and the Tigor.ev (Rs 12.49 lakh), and it is available in medium range and long range variants, which will further be categorized into different ‘personas.’
The five ‘personas’ of the Punch.ev are as follows; smart, smart+, adventure, empowered, and empowered+. The long range variant will be available from the adventure persona onwards, while those interested in the short range variant can choose from any of the five personas.
Both the medium range and long variants are powered by a single electric motor, but they receive different battery packs. The medium range produces 80.4 bhp and 11.6 kgm of torque, and it is backed by a 25 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 315 km on a single charge. The battery takes a claimed 9.4 hours for a 10-100% charge from a 3.3 kW AC charger. This time goes down to 3.6 hours with a 7.2 kW AC fast charger, and even further lessens to 56 minutes with DC fast charging. The long range produces 120.6 bhp and 19.37 kgm of torque, and it gets a 35 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 421 km on a single charge. Tata claims a time of 13.5 hours for a 10 -100% charge, which reduces to 5 hours with a 7.2 kW AC fast charger, while a DC fast charger takes 56 minutes for the same.
For Rs 10.99 lakh, the smart persona offers you climate control, air purifier, automatic air conditioning, multi-mode regen, hill-assist, two driving modes, tyre pressure monitoring, 15-inch steel wheels, cooled glovebox with illumination, rear parking sensors, height adjustable driver seat, six airbags, and ABS.
The smart+ persona comes in at Rs 11.49 lakh, adding steering-mounted controls, paddle-shifters for multi-mode regen, a 7-inch infotainment system, a four-speaker sound system with two tweeters, power windows for both rows, and smartphone connectivity.
The adventure persona adds LED projector headlamps with follow-me home function, DRLs with welcome and goodbye signature, dynamic-swipe turn indicators at the front, cruise control, push-button start, powered, ORVMs, and front cornering fog lamps. The long range variant further adds an additional ‘sport’ drive mode, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, hill-hold and hill-descent, jewelled control knob, all four disc brakes, and an optional 7.2 kW AC charger. The adventure s, also available in medium range and long range guise, gets an electric sunroof, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and dual-tone paint schemes. The adventure persona is priced at Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 12.99 lakh respectively for the medium range and long range guise.
The empowered persona can be had from Rs 12.79 lakh onwards, and the long range variant comes in at Rs 13.99 lakh. The empowered persona receives a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 7-inch instrument cluster, auto-fold ORVMs, auto-dimming IRVM, front armrest, USB type-C charging socket, front and rear armrests, air purifier, and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The empowered ‘s’ versions further add voice commands for the sunroof, and mood lighting.
Lastly, the empowered + persona comes in at Rs 13.29 lakh and Rs 14.49 for the medium range and long range guise respectively. This persona offers a 360-degree camera, blind spot view monitor, front ventilated seats, wireless smartphone charging, navigation function in the cockpit, and compatibility with multiple voice assistants such as Alexa, Google, Siri, and Hey Tata.
Tha Tata Punch.ev goes up squarely against the Citroen eC3, which is less powerful and gives you lesser options in terms of features, but it carries a higher price tag of Rs 11.61 lakh. Perhaps a showdown should help clear things up?
