It seems as if Mini is up to something…erm, big. Having opened pre-bookings for the new 3-door that’s headed our way, the car maker has also unveiled the new 5-door globally. Yes, there’s no word on when it will arrive, but there will be an announcement.
In terms of dimensions, the 2024 Mini Cooper 5-door is 172 mm longer than its 3-door sibling, and it also gets a 72 mm longer wheelbase as well. Design-wise, things are as Mini as they get. You don’t expect certain things to change drastically in life. The Mini Cooper, and the Porsche 911 are a few examples of that. The 5-door bears the same set of design changes as the 3-door, with the octagonal grille, the spherical headlamps, and angular, flush-fitting tail lamps.
Just like its lesser-doored sibling, the 5-door Mini Cooper is also being offered in two variants globally; the Cooper C, and Cooper S. Both the variants bear identical powertrains to the 3-door Cooper. The Cooper C, with its 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit churning out 153 bhp and 23.45 kgm of torque, while the Cooper S gets a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol unit, packing 201 bhp and 30.59 kgm of torque. Mini says the suspension has been tuned for ‘spirited handling’, while the preloaded anti-roll bar mounts should help in balancing the car while attacking corners.
Inside, the 5-door Mini Cooper carries on the minimalist theme, which is inspired by the original Mini. The circular infotainment display takes centrestage, running on the Mini Operating System 9, and it also gets kit such as a personal ‘Hey Mini’ voice assistant, 3D turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic insights, and parking assist among other things.
The 2024 5-door Mini Cooper is likely to make it to India, possibly some time after the new 3-door is here, which is also coming soon. However, we shall get back to you following any official announcements.
